The selection of students who represented Mexico at the seventh International Geography Olympiad won gold and silver medals, said the Mexican Academy of Sciences. The medals won during the just completed in Carthage, Tunisia, from 7 to 12 August were to Francisco Javier Quezada Figueroa of Guerrero, and Emanuel Johansen Campos, Morelos, respectively. The competition included a written examination, worth 40 percent, a multimedia examination, worth 20 percent, and a year of fieldwork, which represents 40 percent of the total. All tests are conducted in English, which is the official language of the Olympics. Both students agreed that the hardest part of the competition was the fieldwork, where after making a tour of different parts of Tunisia, from cities that were on the coast to places in the desert, I had an hour to make a complete map of an entire region of the country.
